Breastfeeding and Travel:

It’s been a few years since I’ve had a baby. I still remember the time and research it took for me to understand the dos and don’ts of breastfeeding on a plane. I also had to learn how to navigate the rules of traveling with breast milk. When I traveled with my 1 year old daughter internationally 7 years ago the only thing on my mind once I got to the airport was making sure she was fed. I also wanted to make sure she was comfortable and safe while we were flying. This included being aware of earaches she might experience during our flight.

Providing my daughter with essential nutrients while I was breastfeeding meant I needed to be sure to take my own vitamins. These vitamins turned out to be the prenatal vitamins I took while I was pregnant with her. For me the best organic choice for prenatal vitamins are the whole food based Honest Company Prenatal Vitamins. Each filled with Folic Acid and other essential nutrients. Because I breastfed my daughter from birth, I felt the best thing would be to breastfeed her the majority of the flight as the sucking motion would prevent her ears from popping. This worked out successfully as she slept the whole 6 hours of our flight.

If breastfeeding isn’t an option or choice for you, I think it’s important to understand the rules of traveling with formula. You don’t want to mix the formula before going through security. If you are carrying breast milk, it needs to be clearly labeled and you must be sure to inform airport security of the contents. I find a great nutritional option for feeding babies while traveling to be the Honest Company Premium Organic Formula.

The Honest Company is a company I’ve trusted for years with my everyday needs including cleaning products and for babies in my extended family formula, diapers and wipes. Check out their Instagram page for more products for your little ones.  When it comes to travel I’ve decided to make them a trusted part of my family’s trip as well.

Happy Baby! Happy Mommy!
