What to Expect on a Golden Circle Tour:
The stunning beauty of Iceland is still fresh in my mind. But I’m excited to share my experiences from the natural beauty of the Golden Circle. Here are some amazing things you’ll see if you decide to explore the land of fire and ice.
Faxi Waterfall
Our first stop was Faxi waterfall. Located on a river this beautiful waterfall is smaller than others I experienced in Iceland. But still had a large impact because of its calming waters and picnic area perfect of campers.
Gullfoss Waterfall
Gullfoss waterfall which was larger and powerful was packed with tourists as it’s one of Iceland’s most popular waterfall. Be prepared to take photos with a waterproof camera. It’s also wise to wear a waterproof jacket, especially when its cold. I had the pleasure of being there in 32 degree weather. There’s a long walk from the parking lot to the waterfall. And you’ll have to do a lot more walking on narrow strip of land to get up-close to the waterfall. Don’t get too close though.

Geysir Hot Spring
Next stop was the Geysir hot spring Strokkur, where you’ll find stunning, yet dangerous to touch hot springs. It was great watching the timed eruptions, spouting boiling water every few minutes into the air. There are little cabins available across the street if you want to spend the night. There’s also a tourist center there for you to use the restrooms, shop for souvenirs and get food. But be prepared to spend a few bucks.
Þingvellir National Park
Þingvellir pronounced Thingvellir, is definitely a lovely national park. A UNESCO World Heritage site with waterfalls and stunning views of the Icelandic landscape. Of course there were rainbows everywhere, which is a signature sight I noticed about many areas outside of Reykjavik. If you find yourself wondering around the national park, keep an eye out for the church in the distance, gushing waterfalls and even some fishing. The site was also used for Iceland’s parliament for several hundred years up until the 1700’s. Definitely worth it to explore, but be prepared to walk, so please wear comfortable shoes.

We found Iceland to be a magical place. It truly felt like a fantasy land. It is totally understandable that over 50% of it’s residents believe in elves.
I agree with you, the Geysir prices are a little tourist trappy. But you can’t put a price on an experience of a life time….. or maybe you can. Either way I got good value.

Gullfoss Waterfall and the Geyser hot spring really attracted me so much. I didn’t know that there is a golden circle tour to be taken in Iceland ( we have one back home in India too, with of course totally different destinations on it ) And the iceland one looks equally interesting. Hope to make it soon to this hot destination (which is actually so cold) 🙂

Wow, this tour covers all the major sights I want to visit when I visit Iceland. Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot springs are my top priorities during the trip. Saving this post for future reference. A planned trip will make everything so much easier.
