Given that I haven’t eaten at every restaurant in Stockholm, Sweden. This list consists of the places that have made an impact on me every time I made a visit this city. From the traditional foods to the not so traditional. Needless to say I’ve enjoyed every Swedish meatball, lingonberry, gelato and kanelbullar (Swedish cinnamon roll). Here’s a list of the best places to eat and drink in Stockholm.

Grillska Huset

This was an entire meal!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Grillska Huset is one of the best places I’ve ever had the pleasure of having a meal at in Europe. There are many things that draw me to this place every time I visit. Being in the center of Gamla Stan where you can people-watch tourists all day for one. The weekly specials, the salads and fresh seafood will definitely keep you coming back for more. Check out my previous post for more of their menu options and the prices of their meals. https://www.kjaroundtheworld.com/my-favorite-place-to-eat-in-stockholm/

Cafe Krans

Swedish Cinnamon Roll

If you love Swedish pastries Cafe Krans is the place to stop as you walk through the city. I couldn’t get enough of the cinnamon rolls here. They entice you to come in by having the pastries in the window. But there’s no need as you can smell the pastries from down the street. https://cafekrans.business.site/

Chaikhana Tea House

Afternoon Tea

Looking for a relaxing afternoon tea experience? Chaikana Tea House has what you’re looking for. The afternoon tea options are endless. You can have your scones and sandwiches with a cup of tea and a glass of champagne. The scones weren’t the traditional ones I’d been used to, but they were delicious including the cream and jam. Salads and vegetarian meals also available. https://www.chaikhana.se/

Cafe Kakbrinken

Coconut Ice Cream Dream

I couldn’t write a post without including ice cream (gelato). I have to say there are many places around Stockholm where you can find gelato. I was very surprised. One of the best places to stop for some gelato definitely has to be Cafe Kakbrinken. There were so many amazing flavors, I didn’t know what to choose. I settled on coconut at this location. Eating this gelato as I walked around Stockholm made me feel like I was walking around in a coconut dream. Definitely worth your time and money.

Slingerbulten

Traditional Swedish Meatballs

Traditional Swedish meatballs anyone? Slingerbulten has what you’re looking for. I love, love, love Swedish meatballs. And this is the place to get them. In combination with mashed potatoes and lingonberry, this meal gives outsiders a taste of the traditional. Every bite the meatballs pop and when you put all three on the same fork, the flavors are heavenly. Check out their website for more on the meals they offer. http://www.slingerbulten.com/

De Sally

De Sally’s was the last place I ate before leaving. The appetizers, main meal (steak and potatoes) and dessert were all on point. But I have to say the wines they offered were amazing. The ambiance of the restaurant was also very New York/Italian. I definitely recommend this place for a romantic evening out.

Be mindful of the lower-level which is underground. The space is used for additional restaurant seating, barrels of wine and the restroom.

House of Burgers

House of Burgers is an honorary member of this list. I’m not posting a picture of my meal as it was not up to my standards. My friend who was also on the trip had a veggie burger that I tried and that was amazing. Their fries were also very delicious. What I liked most about House of Burgers was the customer service. They were very attentive and prices were reasonable. Most of all I forgot my phone at the table and went back 20 minutes later and it was waiting at the register for me.

If you get a chance to visit this amazing city I recommend you visit one of these restaurants. Drop a comment below when you do to let me know your experience.

Happy Travels!

  1. […] There are so many amazing options for food in Stockholm. There is truly something for everyone. My favorite dessert has to be the Princess Cake also known as Prinsesstårta. I don’t know if it’s the jam, sponge cake or marzipan outer layer, but this is the one thing I never leave Stockholm without having. One of my favorite places to eat and people watch has to be the center of Gamla Stan. Here you will find traditional Swedish restaurants like Grillska Huset and Stockholms Gustabud. Interested in trying more local favorites such as mashed potatoes, meatballs and reindeer roast beef, head to Restaurang Kryp In. Here are more places to find great food in Stockholm. […]
