Welcome to Restaurant Week 2018

Restaurant Week in New Haven is definitely one of my favorite things to do in the city once or twice a year. New Haven is home to a number high quality Michelin Star restaurants but some amazing small hole in the wall eateries too. Restaurant Week gives me a great opportunity to find some new places to eat, but brings me back to some of my old favorites too. Check out some of the places I visited this year.

Pacifico

This year I had to stop at one of my favorites for sure. Pacifico has a warm inviting decor that makes you want to sit there and eat for hours. The best part of my experience there has been the customer service. From the manager, to the cooks and the wait staff everything is done with love and quality. The variety of the menu is also something that keeps me coming back. This year I tried the shrimp corn chowder for my first course and the fajita bowl for my second. As this was lunch I was able to get this for $17. I ordered a glass of sangria which was not included in the restaurant week price and that came to about $8. If you’re in the New Haven area this is definitely a great place to stop.

Soul de Cuba Cafe

I’ve wanted to eat at Soul de Cuba Cafe for as long as I can remember. It’s been several years and every time I pass by I keep reminding myself to stop in, but it never happens. So I finally made my way to the restaurant and realized upon arrival it was very small inside. I now realized why it always looked so packed when I was passing by. Now to the food…..

For restaurant week they offered a variety of dishes including vegetarian and seafood. Sadly the best thing on the menu for me was the “ensalada fresca” which was a delicious mix of quinoa and beans. For main course I had the empanada trio served with rice and beans. The trio consisted of beef, chicken and plantains. I have to say it was very disappointing to wait so long for food that didn’t blow me away. But I’m glad I went because I did enjoy the setting. The ambiance was filled with music, art, instruments and even photos of individuals in Cuba.

Sadly I didn’t get to all the places I wanted to this year, but I’m definitely looking forward to next years Restaurant Week list and the amazing places I could discover next year.

  1. Love the colourful ambiance of the Pacifico and the service of the crew! That Fajitas looks mouth-watering! Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy (much) the food and the service at the Soul de Cbu Cafe. Must’ve been a letdown of some sorts since you’ve been wanting to eat here. Glad to know that you enjoyed the the ambiance nevertheless! 🙂
A restaurant week sounds like an awesome idea to try out food and restaurants in the city. Cool idea btw!

  2. Aww, Empanadas are my favourite, so I’m a little sad to hear that they didn’t meet your expectations. It sounds like New Haven has some impressive restaurants to visit though!

  3. The food looks delicious here. I also like the design and decor of the restaurant. It is so colorful and gives a nice happy vibe. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  4. Love when towns have restaurant weeks and there are some great special menus available and an extra special welcome by all the restaurants. Love the look of all your picks but I’m drawn most to Soul de Cuba as we don’t readily find good Cuban food here.

  5. I would have picked the “ensalada fresca” too. Of late, quinoa has become quite a favourite of mine. The empanada sounds great too. The wall art is lovely..vibrance on the restaurant adds to the appeal.

  6. All the yum! I LOVE restaurant week! Anywhere and everywhere! Sometime I wish I could plan my travels around it. These spots look great and I love the decor at the Cuban restaurant!

  7. I love discovering great places to eat! Pacifico looks and sounds like exactly the type of place I’d love to visit (and re-visit), thanks so much for letting us know about it.

  8. Apart from the food, which obviously looks delicious, I like the look and feel of the place. The ambiance is definitely something that would drive me here. It would be really fun if one could plan their travel around the restaurant week itself.
