Moving abroad can be overwhelming, there are steps you can take to make the process easier, no matter where you choose to go. Country scouting is a great way to figure out the country that may be the best fit for your life. With more and more people moving abroad each year, it’s important to plan ahead and figure out how to do it the way you want. Here are some reasons why country scouting matters in 2022.

Find Your Best Fit:

Heading to the relocation country is a great way to know if you’ve found your best fit. Sometimes one trip is not enough, other times people fall in love at first sight. Country scouting is a great way to figure out if you are willing to spend a considerate amount of time in this place. Whether it’s going to school, working, raising children, or relaxing and enjoying life, if you don’t go you will never know.

Get to Know the People:

Taking a trip to the place you’ve been dreaming about will only drive you further into relocating abroad. Joining local groups and knowing the right resources for meeting and getting to know people can be essential. Getting to know people can open up so many doors to learning about the area and some of the ins and outs that could make a transition there easier. Discover the Food:

I don’t know about anyone else, but if there’s good food I’ll be there. Knowing the type of food and the costs of grocery shopping and eating out is important to know ahead of time. It’s also a great way to discover local food you’ve never heard about. Important to note is when people eat. The dining schedule might not be what you’re used to either. Be sure to take note of restaurant hours on a scouting trip. If you’re used to having dinner at 6pm, don’t be surprised if you show up to a restaurant and their closed.

Learn the Transportation System:

Visiting a country can teach you more about their transportation system. Do they rely heavily on cars? Will you need a car when you move there? These are some questions that can be answered by visiting different countries. It’s a great way to do some exploring of the cities and neighborhoods that meet your needs. Sometimes internet searches just don’t do you justice. Perfect example here. After visiting Barcelona, I realized it’s possible to get around a large city effortlessly. It is also a great city for heading to several other neighboring towns without having a car. Knowing whether you need a car or not can help you to determine how much money you will need. This can help with planning your monthly relocation expenses.

Discover the Best Cities/Neighborhoods:

A great way to discover the city and neighborhood of your dreams is to visit and explore the location. I am always a fan of doing your research online. This helps you to see the who, what, where and how of a place. There is nothing like finding the neighborhood of your dreams. Even better is finding a neighborhood with the best local shops and people ready to embrace you. If you have young children, it is important to explore different communities. This can be essential when choosing the right schools or extracurricular activities.
