Teaching abroad can be an exciting experience. Being able to experience a new country and culture can improve your career and confidence. As someone who loves to travel, I’ve always been inspired by people who fall in love with a country and decide to relocate. When relocating, it’s not always possible to work a remote-job. If you love teaching children or even adults, teaching abroad can be a great option for securing a visa. The best part is this works whether you’re relocating solo or with your family. Here are my top five reasons to explore teaching abroad.

1. Traveling the World and Meeting New People

Traveling the world and meeting new people can be a dream if you are open to the challenges and the good times. Getting out of your comfort zone can be a great way to see what life is like outside of your home-country. Don’t be afraid to go out alone, don’t be afraid to speak and connect with people. Being open-minded and respectful is always the way to go. It also helps if you familiarize yourself with the basics of the language such as greetings, to make for an easier transition and getting around.

2. Experiencing a New Culture

From food and language to traditions and religion. Experiencing a new culture can be eye-opening and rewarding. Teaching abroad can give you an opportunity to learn from a new culture and the students in your classroom. You also learn a valuable lesson of tolerance when you are able to connect with people who come from a different culture than your own. Being open-minded to your students and their families can help you to build a reciprocal relationship that can even break down language barriers.

3. Reasonable Compensation and Benefits

Compensation can range depending on what you teach, your credentials and the country you decide to teach in. Here you will find the salaries from several countries where you can teach English. Native English teachers are always in-demand in countries like Spain, Japan and South Korea. But, do your research as each country is not a one-size fits all. Compensation and benefits sometimes depend on the countries overall economy.

4. Learning a New Language

Learning a new language that can be used in multiple countries is always a practical idea. If you’re curious about Spanish, learning Spanish in Spain is a great way to study, work and live in Spain. Check out Ole Languages for an affordable option to staying in Spain long term.

5. Better Work-Life Balance

For me, having a good work-life balance no matter where I live is ideal. If this is what you want for yourself, teaching abroad in the right country will help you to find what you are looking for. There are many countries where the culture is to have a line between work and home. In places like Germany, employers can not reach out to you by email outside of working hours. Having a good work-life balance leaves you with enough room to enjoy time with friends and family. It leaves you time to enjoy your hobbies.

These are my reasons, what are yours? If you haven’t discovered them yet, it’s time to start brainstorming about what inspires you and how you want to enjoy life. If you love teaching, remember you can teach from anywhere and teachers are always in-demand.
