The island of Antigua is located in the Caribbean and is known for it’s beautiful beaches and vibrant people. If you’re looking for a great place to vacation, a place where you can experience warm sandy beaches. Antigua is the place for you.

Here’s a list that will inspire to start planning your trip:

Where to Eat:

The island of Antigua definitely doesn’t have a shortage of places to eat. There are traditional restaurants, roadside food stalls, bakeries and chain restaurants like KFC and Burger King. One of the best places to find authentic food made by the people of Antigua is to stop by one of the roadside food stalls for a meal that will satisfy any appetite.

Roadside Vendors

This container of BBQ chicken, rice, mac and cheese and steamed vegetables cost me about $10. They have different varieties and it’s enough to feed more than one person. Looking for authentic curry goat? They have it. Looking for soups and drinks made from scratch, they have it. If you’re only interested in fruits your entire trip, you’ll find vendors selling mangoes and other fruits as well.

Flatties Flame

Flatties Flame was one of my favorite places to eat. The menu had peri-peri style chicken and seafood. The food was fresh and delicious. If I could I would’ve eaten there every night. The restaurant is only open in the evenings. Located in English Harbour, it’s a hit with tourists and locals. Besides the food I have to say this place excels in amazing mixed drinks. Never has a rum punch tasted so good. They also provided fast service and great customer service.

Big Banana

Another great place to eat was Big Banana. This place has been around for almost 30 years and is still going strong. They’re known for their pizza’s, but to me it was a little mediocre. It’s best to look at other menu items like their wings which were beyond amazing. They also had a wide variety of local drinks, including passion-fruit and ginger beer. What to Do:

When I was in Antigua I felt like there was so much I wanted to do without enough time to do it. From museums to beaches, there’s not a shortage of things to do on this island. The best part is, it’s a great place to visit with children.

Visiting Heritage Quay

Heritage Quay is located in the capitol of St. Johns. It’s located near the dock where the tourists ships come in and is easy to access on foot like most of the areas of the capitol. Heritage Quay is also filled with many restaurants and duty-free shops. Definitely worth a stop before you head back home.

Exploring Nelson’s Dockyard

This was my first time visiting Nelson’s Dockyard and as I expected it gave a glimpse in the islands colonial past. There was much to learn about Nelson, his wife, mistress and his time on the island. The museum also gave us a look into the lives of the people that worked for Nelson. Enjoying the Sunsets

Antigua is certainly the place to experience some amazing sunsets. There were days where I would stare out from my aunts deck to watch the sun setting behind her house. Another great place to view the sunsets has to be the beaches. From watching the waves to looking past the horizon, I cant think of anything more romantic.

Having a Swim at the Beach

The beaches located around Antigua speak for themselves. The island boasts 365 beaches, one for every day of the year. As seen in the photo above my son couldn’t help himself the first day we arrived at the beach. I’ve always loved swimming in the ocean, but there is something calming and peaceful about swimming in the clear ocean waters of Antigua.

Visiting the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda

The museum of Antigua and Barbuda is filled with artifacts from the rich history of these two islands. Imagine being able to trace the history of an island from it’s native inhabitants, slavery and colonialism to the modern day experiences of the people of the island. The museum also gave us an understanding of the island’s current ecosystem and economic growth. If you’re interested in history and what to learn more about the island, this is certain the place to stop if you are exploring St. Johns.

With all of this information and new found inspiration, I hope you’ve started planning your next trip. If not, be sure to add this island paradise to your top ten destinations list of places to visit. It’s worth it.
