Discover Washington D.C.: My Top 5 Reasons to Visit Now!
We all know winter can be a bummer, and sometimes that trip to Miami does’t seem affordable. But if your looking for a great place to discover this winter, Washington, D.C. might be waiting for you. Arriving at Union Station, the first thing on our agenda was to see the White House. Taxi cab’s aren’t really expensive and the Circulator bus will take you around the National Mall, stopping across the street from the White House. We had a weekend long stay from Friday to Monday, experiencing so much in a short period of time. There’s so much to see and do in this great place, heading to Washington, D.C. during winter will only make you fall in love with it even more.
Important Reminder: Visiting inside the White House can only be done by putting in a request to your states member of Congress at least 21 days before your visit.
1. Exploring Amazing Museums –Most Smithsonian Museums are FREE! They’re kid-friendly, and you’ll be indoors for hours.

The Smithsonian’s Museum of African American History and Culture and artifacts from slavery!
2. Accessible Public Transportation -Getting around by bus is easy, cheap and safe. From Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials to the U.S. Capital Building, the ride will only cost you $1.00 on the Circulator.
3. Easy Access to Food and Drinks -Stopping at the many Food Kiosk’s around the National Mall for a cup of hot chocolate, will keep you warm as you head from place to place. *One cup will cost you around $2.50*

4. Seasonably Festive -You can explore the Downtown Holiday Market, located in the center of D.C.
You could enjoy the holiday market from November 25th to December 23rd. You’ll find some crafty items including jewelry, antiques and woodworking. There’s also live music and food. The cold weather didn’t put a damper on our fun. The market was across the street from our hotel, so we made our way there after checking the tents.
5. Hospitality of the People –I don’t know if it was the holiday season or just me, but I experienced nothing but kindness and hospitality in Washington, D.C. when I visited back in December. From people on the street, to museum staff, Amtrak personnel and taxi drivers. You will not be disappointed visiting our Nations Capital.

The Smithsonian is AMAZING! I could get lost there for days and I’m not much of a museum person! I visited DC in March – it was quite nice despite the cold!

I’ve always wanted to visit Washington DC, the way it’s portrayed in films always make it seem so cool and bright… and the Smithsonian even if just form Night at the Museum! I’m stoked to hear most of them are free to visit!

I’m typically not a fan of cold, winter locations, but I’m overdue for a visit to DC. The last time I was there was for President Obama’s inauguration in 2009. I definitely want to visit the Smithsonian museums. Thanks for this updated info.
Great place to be. I hadn’t been there since 2010, a lot has changed. The cold wasn’t that bad. But we went back to the Jacuzzi every night, so that helped! Thanks for stopping by!

My top reason for going to Washington will definitely be the museums too. Recently, I read Dan Brown’s ‘The Lost Symbol’ and now my second reason to go would be to connect what he wrote with the city’s fascinating history.
