1. Admire the Many Cathedrals Around the City

There are many architectural wonders around the city of Helsinki. These include Cathedrals like Upenski and Helsinki Cathedral. And the best part about both of them you can admire them without a fee.

2. Visit the Cities Many Parks

Sibelius Monument

Helsinki to me is one of the greenest cities I’ve ever been to. There are many parks to explore, including the park where you can find the Sibelius Monument. The monument was created by Eila Hiltunen as a dedication to Jean Sibelius a famous Finnish composer.

3. Using the Tram to Get Around the City

By using the tram to get around the city you can get from several areas to the center of the city with the 11 tram lines available. Get around by purchasing a travel card with a credit card or using the HSL app. Click here for the link https://www.hsl.fi/en/app A single ticket will cost 2.80 Euros and will last up to 90 minutes.

4. Visit the Helsinki City Museum

If you want to learn more about the city of Helsinki in the most budget-friendly way possible. You’re best bet is to visit the Helsinki City Museum. Why? Because it’s FREE! There’s so much to see at this museum. My favorite parts were the interactive exhibits and photos of what the city looked liked more than a 100 years ago.

5. Taking the Ferry to Suomenlinna

As with the tram, the cost of the ferry ride to Suomenlinna will not cost you more than 3.00 Euros. The island of Suomenlinna was once upon a time a military fort with many of the pasts relics still present around the island. There are also many people who live on the island so it’s important to mindful of this as you explore, shop or enjoy a picnic.

6. Enjoy a Meal or 2 or 3 at the Street Market

Crepes and Ice Cream had me at Hello!
The freshest strawberries I’ve ever had

Here the photos speak for themselves. Are you a foodie? Helsinki market is the place to find traditional Finnish foods, fresh fruits, vegetables and international foods from around the world. The street markets are full of fried delicious goodness. You can easily come back everyday and visit each stall for your lunch, snack and dinner. My favorites were definitely the crepes with ice cream and the traditional salmon soup (8-10 Euros). The best part is, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg considering how expensive Helsinki already is.

7. Explore the Indoor Market Halls Around the City

Market Halls are a great place to see the past and present of Helsinki come to life. Many of the market halls opened in the late 1800’s. You can find amazing food, cooked and raw. There are restaurants and restrooms as well. You can find pastry shops, souvenir shops and much more.
