1. Visiting Parc Guell

One of the best places to visit when you arrive to Barcelona has to be Parc Guell. With views spanning across the city, all the way to the beach. Being at the park gives this beautiful city a different perspective. Parc Guell is also a masterpiece of architecture. Gaudi’s vision of this unique housing complex continues to be on full display here. It is a large park with quiet areas to relax, it is best to walk around beyond the usual photo-op places.

2. Tour La Sagrada Familia

Arriving at La Sagrada Familia feels like arriving in a strange new world. From the metro you walk out to this amazing structure in front of you. It is fascinating, but be aware of the crowds. Click here to book your tour early.

3. Go Shopping at Mercado de La Boqueria

Mercado de La Boqueria is one of the most diverse markets I’ve ever seen. There is something there for everyone. From the fresh fruits and vegetables, to olives and oils grown in the region. If you’re looking for a little pick-me-up after walking through the Gothic Quarter, the market has what you need. From meats and cheeses to smoothies and chocolate, this is a great place to explore.

4. Taking Cooking Lessons

Taking Cooking Lessons in Barcelona was an exciting activity I booked when I was planning the trip. If you have a few days or even a few hours this is a great way to connect with new people and go home with a new recipe.

5. Watch a Game at Camp Nou

If you’re interested in football, Camp Nou is the place in Barcelona that should be at the top of your list. Make a stop there to visit the shop and museum. If you want to attend a game, check out the schedule on their website and get your ticket before arrival.

6. Tour Casa Batllo

Casa Batllo is another Antoni Gaudi masterpiece in the center of Barcelona, located near Placa de Catalunya. The unique landmark has thousands of visitors a year. The exterior is constantly being decorated and highlighted, centering around the architecture. Visit Casa Batllo to learn more about the history of the building, Gaudi, as well as the family who owned it and lived there. As one of Barcelona’s many UNESCO World Heritage sites, you can go beyond the exterior and explore the interior of the house.

7. Explore the Picasso Museum

As a Pablo Picasso enthusiast, I waited many years to visit the museum and it did not disappoint. If you are an art lover, visiting the Picasso Museum is a true dream. You not only get to see some of his most famous artworks, but explore the building he once called home.

8. Walking Through the Gothic Quarter

Walking through the Gothic Quarter you will find history all around you. Remember to look at the many structures all around you as some have unique features to them. The most famous of all, Pont del Bisbe. You won’t be able to miss this one as you will notice a skull pierced with a dagger.

9. Take a Walk Along Barceloneta

If you visit Barcelona, it will not be complete until you’ve gone to the beach. Although, many of the shops are tourist-centered, the beach is a great place for everyone to take in what I love most about Barcelona. It’s magical mix of sea and mountains.

10. Take a Day Trip

I always find it best to fit a day trip in to every vacation I’m on. From Barcelona the possibilities are endless. You can hop on the train and head to Tarragona going south or take the train to Girona, going north, all in an hour or less. I find it interesting to experience Catalonia outside of Barcelona. The food is authentic and you get the opportunity to learn more about the language and the people.
