I love paella. Yes, this is how I’m opening this blog post. I love paella. I’ve had it at a variety of restaurants. I’ve had it in Spain and I’ve had it in the U.S. The last time I was in Spain, my top priority was to learn how to make it. Keep reading for more details on how you can book and enjoy a paella experience in Barcelona.

Booking the Paella Lesson:

I booked my paella lesson on TripAdvisor.com and it was an easy process. From start to finish I was assured of what to expect from the booking. Because my brother had a seafood allergy I called them to discuss his options for the lesson. The local business in Barcelona was very accommodating and assured me things would be fine once I communicated with the chef on arrival. The specific lesson I chose was Interactive_Spanish Cooking_Experience_in_Barcelona it was easy to find the location. You meet the chef at a local restaurant in the city center. From there we went to La Boqueria Market to get the fresh foods we would need to make the dish.

Prepping the Meal Together:

The group consisted of about 12 people, a diverse group of travelers full of life. We prepped our ingredients together. Separating our different types of seafood and chopping up bell peppers. My brother along with another traveler made their chicken paella while we all had sangria, some meats and cheeses.

Making a Paella Masterpiece:

Making the dish we all worked together to add the ingredients and stir. The chef explained the entire process to us. Ensuring we knew what we were doing from start to finish. The booking lasts for 3 hours. From the time we meet to go to the market to the time we finish at the kitchen and head back to the restaurant/bar. The food as well as the company we were in made the experience, which was budget-friendly very worth it.

The Grand Finale:

The paella came out as expected, just spectacular. The seafood was fresh, the ingredients were fresh. And we cooked with love and enthusiasm, which always makes a dish even better. From the meal we all walked back to the local restaurant/bar for a cava, which was on the house. Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay longer as we were heading to Camp Nou next. But what I can say is the food was so filling, I didn’t have to get dinner for many hours. If you’re looking for things to do in Spain, this should be at the top of the list.

I loved my experience making paella in Barcelona. It was great connecting with the people there. The booking process and the organization was ideal. I would definitely recommend this experience for anyone interested in learning how to make paella. But, it’s still my mission to head to Valencia the home of the paella to learn how to make it the “traditional” way.
