Essential Blogging Tips for Newbie’s:

Starting a blog can be difficult. But there’s also so much to get excited about. When new bloggers start off strong, the chances of them becoming successful in the first year increases. Whether you’re goal is to monetize your blog or use it as a platform for change, here are some essential tips for blogging newbie’s to help you get off to a good start.

1. Learn How to Use SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

This is probably going to be one of the hardest things newbie’s will have to learn and master. I was late to the game on this one as I only discovered SEO’s after five months of blogging. Now what is SEO? First off, it’s how you get traffic to your blog. Using a variety of combinations, including keywords, links and structure, this helps to get you to the top of the “Google” search page. Unfortunately this is only a brief explanation. There will be more to come with a follow-up blog post. But for now think of SEO as the gateway (aka a toll booth) to your blog, and you need to feed it (quality content) to make it happy.

2. Create a Calendar

I am not the greatest at time management sometimes. I found myself posting irregularly when I first started my blog a year ago. This was a big mistake. The audience wants consistency, they look forward to certain posts and insights on certain days. Having a calendar with ideas for blog posts and the dates you’ll be positing them is definitely a great idea for keeping you on the right track as a new blogger.

3. Add Value

What will your blog bring to your audience. What knowledge, skill or product can you offer the world. I believe it’s essential to know how you add value, as it will become your niche. This is what you will be known for, and people will seek you out for your expertise.

4. Get Familiar with Social Media

Social media is such an essential part of blogging, especially for new bloggers. I honestly don’t think my blog would have the reach it does without social media. You don’t have to master them all at once, start with one like Pinterest that you can dedicate time to daily. This will help you to build a community of followers who share your interests.

5. Keep Calm and Carry On!

Like the Brits, its important for newbie’s to keep pushing themselves to improve.  Build on your writing skills, increase your social media reach and . Keep deadlines and return emails in a timely manner. Stay consistent in all you do, this will only motivate you to keep moving forward with your blog, building quality content.

  1. Thanks for the tips dear. Even though I am struggling with my calendar so far, I am making some progress and i have been able to keep up with publishing a new post each Tuesday.

  2. Free Piano

Hello, i read your blog from time to time and i own a similar one and i was just wondering if you get a lot of spam comments? If so how do you stop it, any plugin or anything you can suggest? I get so much lately it’s driving me crazy so any assistance…

    1. Your comment came through as spam actually. I don’t know why this happens. I usually get 1-2 “spam” comments a month. I’m not sure how to prevent this but I think there maybe a plug-in to help. I could look into it and get back to you. Do you have WordPress?
