Washington, D.C. is one of those places that can be enjoyable all year around. I’ve visited the nation’s capitol more times than I can count at this point in my life. It seems I end up there in winter most of the time. And I always have a good time no matter who I visit with. If you’re interested in planning a winter trip to Washington, D.C. there are several things you need to consider. First you need to think about where to stay, what you will eat and what you will do while visiting. It’s most important for you to also remember to consider what you pack for your trip. Washington, D.C. is a walkable city, which means you need to be prepared to back great shoes. Here are some tips for planning your next winter trip to Washington, D.C.

How to Get There:

Getting to Washington, D.C. can be done by bus, train or plane. You can take a flight from any major city in the United States, including Newark, NJ, where I flew out of. In the past I’d take the Amtrak train down to Washington D.C. But this time around I decided to fly down. It was interesting being able to navigate getting from the airport to the city center, because when in doubt hop in an Uber.

Where to Stay on Your Trip:

There are a number of hotels that would keep you comfortable with a variety of amenities during your trip. The Willard Intercontinental is one of the best places to stay in you want to be in the center of the city. The hotel is located next to the White House with walkable routes to Capitol Hill and the National Mall. You can also stay at budget-friendly hotels in the area such as Holiday Inn Express.

Where to Eat:

Although I tend to head to Nando’s when I go to D.C. This time around I made sure to try a variety of restaurants. One of my favorites had to be Fogo de Chao an upscale Brazilian restaurant in the center of downtown Washington, D.C. Reservations are required, it’s a very busy location, but well worth it with amazing drinks and quality food.

What to Do:

There is so much to do in Washington, D.C. The best part of it is that most of these things are FREE. Visiting the National Museum of African American History and Culture is a great place to start. It is one of the busiest and most sought after museums in Washington, D.C. It is best that you get your tickets ahead of time. You can also visit the other museums in the area including the National Portrait Gallery or the International Spy Museum. What to Pack for Your Trip:

You want to make sure you begin the packing process by thinking about packing for the occasion. I definitely believe comfortable and chic is the way to go. Remember to pack those comfortable shoes. Also remember that Washington, D.C. can get very windy in the winter, let layers be your building blocks when you begin packing for your trip. I packed several different cashmere tops and sweater dresses to ensure comfort and style, no matter where I was heading throughout my trip.
