Preparing for the Flight:

Planning a trip to England in 2022 after the unpredictability of the past two years began for me with booking our flights with Delta and adding travel insurance. Our travel insurance which was done with Allianz covered us for any unexpected illnesses. Preparing for an overseas travel destination required making sure we knew about any restrictions or requirements ahead of time.

You are required to wear a mask on your flight and in the airport. If you’re vaccinated you only need to provide proof of vaccination and fill out a contact tracing form, this needs to be completed 2-3 days before departing to your trip. (As of this blog post the UK has ended all travel and quarantine restrictions UK Travel Guidance)

Coming Back to the U.S.A:

I really didn’t want to think about coming back before my vacation had started, but when planning for a trip you need to consider the requirements for you to return home. Before returning to the U.S.A a PCR or Antigen test would be required at least a day before departing for your flight.

Spending Money and Getting Around:

When planning a trip to England, remember the currency is the Pound not the Euro. I recommend either using your card when you arrive in England or get cash at an ATM in the airport. Remember not every country accepts every card. American Express usage is limited. Discover card even less. It is more practical to bring a Master Card or Visa with you for purchases.

When it comes to getting around you can purchase your Oyster Card in advance or when you arrive at the airport. You can also purchase tickets for the Heathrow Express as a way to get from Heathrow Airport to Central London. We chose to take the Tube from the airport to Central London. It is possible to take the Tube (subway) from Terminal 2 and 3 in the airport. We stood at Platform 2 and took the Piccadilly line toward Cockfosters from Heathrow to Earl’s Court. If you need to get to another location you can take the Piccadilly line and transfer to another line. Click here for more information on getting around London.

If this is your first trip in a long time, remember to have fun. You deserve it.
